Like most of us who grew up watching this series, either in it’s new first accelerate on TV from 1967-70 or later in syndication, it left an indelible impact. Remember, this was the very first time Spider-Man had ever been made into a cartoon, and so the concept of actually getting to seek him swinging from building to building instead of honest looking at freeze-frame shots in a silly strip was really a ample deal.

The first season of episodes (20 shows, 38 individual stories total), I assume, are quiet the most remembered and most cherished of the series, with Spidey taking on renowned villains like The Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Electro, The Vulture, ect. While the later seasons, which were exec. produced, directed, as well as memoir supervised by Ralph “Lord of The Rings - The Absorbing Motion Portray” Bakshi, are a mixed bag of exclusive trippy imagery, with some status points in them that unprejudiced fabricate you scratch your head in bewilderment. There are some gems in there though. Besides the “Origin” Episode (#21), which is definitely a standout, other highlights by Bakshi include, “Home” (#34), a memoir about a woman who also has spider powers (no, it’s not Spider-Woman), “Criminals In The Clouds” (#24) which involves the kidnapping of a high school student by the villainous Sky Master, “The Madness of Mysterio” (#48), a rare fresh Season Three episode exciting the celebrated villain, only looking completely different and having green skin. And speaking of green skin, what was Bakshi’s fetish with green skinned villains anyway? Objective about all of them were green with a few exceptions. And the irony is that he never once ragged The Green Goblin in any of his episodes.

Most of the last season was unbiased a rehash of earlier episodes, remixed and redubbed to seem like recent episodes. I guess when you’re given no money to work with, you try to be as creative as you possibly can, and Bakshi did his best, like taking the angry scientist from the “Swing City” episode (#23) and turning him into an Atlantian in episode #46 (”Up From Nowhere”) by giving him different ears to gawk like a fish. Then Bakshi would do another episode with the angry scientist again (#50 “Specialists And Slaves”), wait on to his normal self. You’d mediate the scientist would learn to conclude shooting at Spider-Man while the webslinger is standing in front of that control panel, but nooooo.

Seriously, these episodes are quiet colossal fun nonetheless. Mammoth nostalgic value. However not every episode was properly remastered. Episodes #40 (”The Winged Thing” & “Connor’s Reptiles”), #42 (”Sky Harbor” & The Substantial Brainwasher”), #43 (”The Vanishing Doctor Vespasian” & “The Scourge Of The Scarf”), #46 (”Up From Nowhere”) & #52 (”Pace To Tomorrow”) all ogle bad. Very blurry and grainy, which is a complete shock, especially when you compare them to a remastered episode which looks crystal obvious with colorful colors and a crisp orderly examine on practically each and every frame. Episode #52 actually does seek perfect…that is until the “Flying Dutchman” segment comes on, then it reverts serve to being blurry and grainy ect. It would seem that perhaps this boxset was rushed by Buena Vista in order to be distributed to the public the same week Spiderman 2 was released in movie theaters, even though it wasn’t quite yet finished…honest so they could obtain a bigger profit. There’s even a misprint on the lyrics to the Spider-Man theme song in the miniature booklet that comes with the boxset. They forgot the line “Reliable Neighborhood Spider-Man”. Honest shotty workmanship, due to it being rushed.

Obviously if you savor this series, you’ll purchase up this boxset regardless of it’s flaws. Some have scoffed that there are no special features included, which is moral, but considering you’re paying around a dollar per episode, there’s not distinguished reason to complain too mighty about it. But many fans are disappointed that the “Next Week” promos at the raze of each episode were not restored, except for one episode. Episode #28 (”Phantom From The Depths Of Time”) does include the promo at the slay (as well as a shot of Spider-Man crawling down a web in the middle of the episode) . But what’s funny is that the promo is for “Revolt In The Fifth Dimension” and that’s not the next episode…it’s not even on the same disc. Another subtle highlight are the character drawings on all the DVD discs of several awful guys, Spidey, and J.Jonah Jameson, and the fact that there’s actually an episode of that character on the disc where he’s featured as the camouflage art on the DVD itself. A nice touch.

Despite all the flaws I quiet indulge in the series and am ecstatic that it has finally been released on DVD. If you’re a fan of this series, seize it up. For the most allotment, this release is the best this explain has looked since…ever!

Keep Swingin’ Spidey!

I’m primitive school to the hilt. Spider- Man, the current… I’ve hunted VHS tapes for years to only rep those taped in EP (or SLP) directly from a UHF site in Philadelphia, and I was charged a premium at a comics point to years ago. Now, novel Spidey’s on DVD! All of the fresh episodes, finally. Several episodes aren’t cleaned up as well as others, but after watching the weak VHS tape that was probably a 4th generation copy, why be so picky. Spiderman fans from the 60s will fancy this. Revisit it.

The DVDs are numbered one to 6, and the episodes burned on each disk are in the same order as they were broadcast. Because the first 2 disks and the first half of the third were done by another company, I’m not as fond of the artwork or music that accompanied those episodes as the ones when Ralph Bakshi took over. I understand that he caught some heat from people who felt that he oversaw alot of regurgitating scenes and even whole episodes as the series continued. But he took over when budget cutbacks forced the producers to step away from the previous animation group. Bakshi did what he could with the budget he was given and the time to form them in. Some even slammed Bakshi for not following the comics for the stories. But to me, Baksi’s episodes are the most fun! Glance at the color and the types of creatures Krantz animation produced, and how ghastly the episodes seemed. Before I knew what other said about these, I felt like I was on some kind of mental prance with the colors and music. All the arch rivals wind up wanting to rule the world (or swamps and even an island) and talk about making slaves of the people. And check how many times Spidey talks about hallucinations in the Bakshi cartoons. Spidey even falls into a bed of mushrooms in at least one toon!

The DVDs are very sparse in any extras, except for the “In Color” lead they played for each episode, but each DVD is around 3 hours, they say. It gets archaic seeing the lead- in and ruin credits for each of the — what — over 50 episodes? But they are keeping the cartoons in their new remark, and not changing voices or other sounds, like the fresh music.

About the fresh music… I had belief that the episodes done by Krantz animation were the first ones, probably because one of them was “The Origin of Spider- Man.” The artwork seemed so worthy more enthusiastic and in- depth, and the music seemed more huge. What wonderful music, by Ray Ellis and Bob Harris. Everyone knows the theme music, but I want you to try that blooming, rich, chubby background music they jammed, especially in disk 4 and the least half of disk 3, honest to bag a feel of how they must have loved doing those pickle sessions! WOW. The sound is mono (the unusual sound was), but the music fills your spirit. Try the background jams to Molemen and Neptune’s Nose Cone (my celebrated) in DVD #4.

The legend line seemed so primitive by the 6th DVD. I don’t remember all these episodes in the reruns I watched. But the decision to release these DVDs is outstanding. I’m pleased to have this, finally.

I only wondered, what in the world did my parents ever consider about the cartoon series when they walked by the TV spot to gaze all the odd scenes, monsters and green- faced enemies, along with all those comments about hallucinations?!

If you’re an “extras” hound like me, “Toy Tale & Toy Memoir 2 - The Ultimate Toy Box” is the promised land. Hands down the best goodies of any DVD to this date. Oh yeah, and you fetch two valid movies too!

I won’t exercise time on the movies themselves, except to say that they’re two of the most lively films ever made. Instead, let’s focus on why to gain the 3-DVD status instead of the 2-DVD space.

The third DVD is truly impressive. You’ll score fully-animated deleted scenes; droll & tantalizing interviews with cast, crew, animators, etc.; an absolutly hysterical debate on “Who’s the best character? ” with Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and the whole cast; some very detailed explanations of the techniques ancient to perform the movies; and so great more. I’ve spent over three hours on Disc 3 alone so far, and there’s a lot more to go!

There are even chilly hidden features. For example, on Disc 3 determine ‘Toy Epic 2.’ Under the ‘Story’ share, decide ‘Jesse’s Song.’ On the next conceal that appears, press the ‘Left’ arrow key on your remote control & you’ll contemplate a request tag. The sound & represent quality on all three discs are the best I’ve seen on DVD. Helps when the whole movie was CREATED digitally, eh?

I applaud Chris Garetano for hanging in through all the ups-and-downs to complete his documentary on these hell-bent dreamers. Are these folks obsessed? Obvious. You have to be. It’s that simple. Unprejudiced as Garetano was–if you want to develop a dream or two happen. How heavy is the toll paid along the intention? Very. Peaceful, life is short–and you only acquire one shot at it–so follow your heart, man: gain, lose or diagram.

It was also stout to peer the incomperable Mr. Ed Neal (Hitchiker from the recent TCM) do a cameo here.

Can’t wait for Son of Anxiety Business, as well as South Texas Blues. I truly hope you can pull it off–because it’s about time someone, anyone, did a film about the hellish experience making the recent Texas Chainsaw Massacre was.

Neat Gadget But Not for Golf
Originally picked this up to use on the golf course, but afterwards found out that even Bushnell says this is not the unit for golfers. It’s small, lightweight and accurate, but does not have a scan feature, meaning the distance measurement does not change as you move the sight from one object to the next. You must “shoot” the object, pick a another and shoot it. I have kept it as it will be great for dear season, but aim higher in the Bushnell line for use on the golf course.

I decided I wanted a range finder when I played golf with my father-in-law. He had the Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 and it worked great. Just point, shoot, and the yardage to the hole was returned promptly every time.

I was really excited when I first got this range finder …until I got it on the golf course. It is much smaller than the YP1000, but the Sport model’s superiority ends there. When you are inside 150 yards, it can range on a flag fine. Any farther than this and it becomes more trouble to use than it’s worth. You have to hold it very steady and it takes several seconds for the range to register (if it is going to register at all).

This range finder may work fine for hunting, but if you are going to use it for golf then spend the extra money and get a better model. I am currently looking at the Bushnell Yardage Pro Tour XL 20-2025, but I haven’t tried it out yet.

Great for anchoring your sailboat
Basically, it works great! We use our rangefinder to judge the distance from our boat to the shore, other boats, and anything else around us. Typical distances are 20 to 200 yards. We bought the cheapest rangefinder we could find because we didn’t need accuracy, didn’t need long distance, and weren’t sure it would be useful to us. Turns out we use it all the time and recommend it to all our sailing friends. We would buy the same unit again, but there are three things about it I would change. First, the unit is about 1/2″ too long for the case that came with it — it fits, but the case doesn’t close all the way. Very annoying! Second, sailors tend to measure in feet or meters and this unit measures in yards. It’s easy enough to multiply by three, but at the end of a long day when you are trying to figure the dinstances between a rocky point, a mooring bouy, and two other boats, it would be nice to avoid the math… Third, I would add a backlight to the display for use at twighlight and at night — the unit makes the measurements, you just can’t see the crosshairs to aim and can’t read the distance until you look at a light.

Don’t listen to the zealots, this is a tremendous movie. Many people hold that this movie “bashes” Christianity, Catholicism in particular. Now, like Kevin Smith, I am a Catholic, and I was in no intention offended by this movie, in fact I saw it five times in the theater. This is a movie that shows the idiosyncracies in church dogma, objective as every structure has idiosyncracies. The movie shows these points through an involving and interesting myth of sterling v. cross. The overall theme of this movie is that people should be more begin to recent ideas and to realize what Christ was all about, care for and plan. “Jesus wasn’t sent to earth to give us the ‘willies,’ he is a booster.” Finally, this is a expansive movie, with mountainous ideas and grand dialogue. I have that it is Kevin Smith’s best work to date. Matt Damon, Jason Lee, Linda Fiorentino, George Carlin, Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes, Alan Rickman, and Chris Rock all give very trustworthy performances, but Ben Affleck does a fantastic job as Bartleby. I would certainly suggest this movie to anyone. Faith is a laughable thing.

Contrary to some of the negative reviews (who really cares ifan A-list movie looks “subpar”–if it’s watchable andenjoyable, then what does it matter), this movie has more than simple comedy and titanic performances. Smith’s “Dogma” asks so many theological quetions that when I left the theatre, I could not end talking about some of the ideas he proposed–however controversial they might have seemed. Smith’s writing, I contemplate, has reached an all time high with this film, following his salubrious “Chasing Amy” and hilarious “Mallrats” (sorry to all you “Clerks” fans, but watching that film is so exceedingly painful and tiresome I can’t record it) . In “Dogma,” Smith rips apart religion and its factions–with a few extra stabs at his occupy Catholicism–yet at the same time upholds religion as a whole. And his knowledge of the Bible is clearly apparent, for some of his scenes (namely the scene between Fiorentino and Affleck (…) ) drip with emotion and truth that Smith’s motives are clear: in writing “Dogma” Smith attempted to intertwine lost faith, religious humor, and redemption. And what a gorgeous inconvenience it is! Even if the visuals are not extraordinary, the script, cast, and the discussions you will have long after the movie has ended are. Rent or purchase this movie–it doesn’t matter which–just glimpse it. “Dogma” is truly wonderful; one of the best of 1999. Waste

Everything is perfect except for overheating
This netbook was a perfect buy for my wife. We have purchased ASUS netbooks before but this one (unlike the others) has a very sturdy and well built feel to it while the others feel flimsy. The only complaint I have is the bottom of the netbook gets so hot that it burns to have on your lap. I’ve owned several laptops/netbooks and have never had a machine cook like this. The netbook would get 5/5 stars if it weren’t for the concerns I have with the device overheating easily.

Asus Eee PC 1008P in-depth
I did a lot of research and waited a long time before buying this Netbook; I totally love the gorgeous look and finish, the ports are hidden under covers. Reasons I selected this model: the New Intel Atom N450, 2GB of memory (vs. 1 GB factory installed for most Netbooks), Win7 Home Prem. (vs. Starter Ed for other Netbooks), Wireless N, Bluetooth (I use a BT Wireless mouse), 1.3 MP webcam… Etc. Overall it is a very well equipped, very light and portable Netbook.
The screen is sharp and easy to read even outside (not under direct sun light).
The keyboard is really comfortable and easy to use.
Absolutely love the Express Gate, it is a stand-alone operating system from ASUS that boots up in seconds and provides the essential appz such as File Explorer, internet browser, photo viewer… in seconds I am connected to the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot and good to go.
The Cons are:
1) The most important thing for the Netbook is the battery life; on this one… it sucks! Better explain in numbers, Watching a movie from the Hard Drive with Bluetooth and Wireless both OFF and battery set on power saver: ~3 Hrs, Streaming video online with Wireless ON & BT OFF and battery set on balanced: ~2.5 Hrs, normal internet surfing (No Stream) with Wireless ON & BT OFF and battery set on power saver: ~4 Hrs, Video chat with Wireless ON & BT ON and battery set on balanced: ~2 Hrs, playing light games (like Luxor 3) full screen with BT and Wireless both OFF and battery set on power saver: ~2 Hrs. I haven’t yet tried to run it on High Performance battery setting for a long time!! The battery never lasted for 4.5 Hrs or more no matter what I turn off and on which settings the battery is; the 6 Hrs battery life is inaccurately advertised!
2) Surprisingly it is not very responsive, I was expecting way better than that! I understand that it is designed for web surfing and light applications and this is exactly what I’m using it for, if I stream a video on YouTube and I have 3 more tabs open in IE for email, news, blogs… the video breaks up really bad! Close a couple of tabs and it works fine! I mean for a 1.66 GHz dual core CPU and 2 Gigs of RAM you think it can do better. Now the performance significantly improve when it’s connected to AC power and set the battery to high performance but the Netbook should be a portable device, if I have to stay plugged to AC power, I would rather prefer to use my 17″ laptop!
3) The 1024×600 resolution is not compatible with a lot of websites and applications, seriously… the manufactures has to get out of this box, 1280×720 is totally doable in this screen size!

I would still recommend this Netbook but purchasing an additional battery is a must, which by the way I wasn’t able to get an extra battery, I’ve been looking since the day I placed the order till the time I’m writing this review, I have searched the internet without luck and contacted ASUS several times regarding this and they keep telling me that it will be available in Amazon and some other websites in the near future… I’m still waiting.

So far, I really like this. I waited for this model because it has Windows 7 Home Premium instead of 7 Starter. I’ve taking it on a trip and it was perfect. I’ve only encountered one problem which really concerns me: I haven’t figured out a way to install the Canon program I need in order to view Canon RAW photos. The problem is that there is insufficient screen resolution for the Canon program to even properly load. If anyone has a solution to this problem, PLEASE reply.

putting prison break to shame nearly a decade earlier, this show rocks!
About the show:

Wow. From the first episode you feel as if you are hooked in, although I dont want to dive too much into the show itself (just skim it) you find that this show, apart from its hard hitting grit and honesty (maybe it is? I dont know, ive never been to prison) dealing with drugs, ethnic grouping, racist attacks, homosexuality, violence and spiritual guidance, this show has something for everyone to walk away with and contemplate as it does dictate a lot of what our soceity is like, even if we have to look at a test subject that is criminal and locked up.

Few warnings though:

Not for the faint hearted: If you are conservative in nature, I would not suggest watching this show, as some of what happens is REALLY harsh (especially as seasons go on)

Not for children: I personally dont believe that people who are under the age of 17 should be watching this show, as it contains graphic sexual scenes and nudity.

Dont watch this if you are a devote prison break fan: This show just makes it look like a joke! Although only the first season of the show was in prison, the realism (if they even tried for that) just doesnt compare to how hard up prisoners really have it, which i feel OZ may convey much better. Tea bag? More like hand bag! Compared to characters like Shillinger and Ada Beisi he is TAME.

On the continual arguments with pricing and dvd quality:

Despite claims in these previous reviews, I have yet to find a problem with this six season set.

Although, I have to admit, the menu’s are seemingly primative and quite long in loading up (panning through computer graphics etc which gets annoying) but the quality is still great.

I also dont see how this boxset is seen as expensive. At the time fo this review (28/7/07) the entire show in this offer costs $208, If you look to buy all seasons seperatly, it will cost you an extra $8 dollars, which you could just spend on getting a better delivery service.

When I bought this show (about 4 months ago) I payed about $170. So at this point in time I do find it a bit pricey and would suggest watching it since prices go up and down. I personally feel though even at 208 USD, its still worth it.

Like No Other
Not always easy to watch, but always worth it. I agree with a reviewer above, this show is addictive! The story isn’t as great as Six Feet Under. There are no Tony Sopranos or Paulie Walnuts to keep you entertained, but Oz is great in it’s own way. Every character has flaws, but they also all have some quality that you can sympathize with. It makes it really hard to choose who to root for.

The plot line is always evolving and the violence gets even more raw as you move through the series. I do feel like there are some plot holes in this show and some of the things that happen don’t seem like they really could happen in real life, but hey… it’s fiction. There is a lot of great acting in this show and it keeps you on your seat waiting to see what is going to happen next. The show can drag a little bit when the prisoners are in counseling and the scenes with the prison staff don’t captivate me as much as the stories about the prisoners, but everything is related in the story and it becomes difficult to separate the prison staff from the prisoners themselves.

This show is excellent and complex. It is worth watching again so you can catch some of the things you may have missied the first time around. Therefore, I think this is a series that is worth owning. I give it 4 out of 5 stars only because there are some things that happen that don’t seem very realistic.

The entire series for less than 250?!?!
What more could you ask for? Considering it’s not a secret that HBO charges an arm and a leg for their season DVDs, this set is truly worth the money. Thanks to netflix I rented season 1 of this and just kept going episode after episode. Never have I been so into a television show like I was with this. The writing is incredible to say the least, back stories are explained with extreme detail, continuation is nothing less than amazing, casting is great(especially the special guest stars i.e. Jon Seda, LL Cool J, Luke Perry, etc…) This show brought out the best in a lot of actors you had no idea were capable of such drama. Everything about this show is entertaining, hard hitting, emotional, shocking, and just fun. I’ve said this 100 times and I’ll say it again, OZ is truly the best show that television had. It’s a shame it had to end but these DVDs will prove how important and incredible this show was and it’s potential. Only season that is somewhat sub par is 3.Couldve finished better. Where as the season finale had a lot of unexplained questions as well, the special features includes the finale uncut with an extra 45 minutes! Basically a movie.

When I’m looking at the Top Ten list’s of America’s critics and the nominations of the DGA,WGA and all the other guilds and press associations, I terribly miss David Fincher’s outstanding film “Fight Club”, which is possibly the best film of 1999.

Not only is the film visualy glowing, it is also very thought-provoking, wickedly droll and, above all, extremely gripping. Only few films managed to be so many things at once. David Fincher, in my belief one of the most intelligent directors of the decade, fills his movie with so many ideas that it would be sufficient for three more movies, and they are not unprejudiced gimmicks for their maintain sake, they all mean something. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt are lustrous in the leads and the soundtrack by the Dust Brothers fits perfectly to the images.

Many reviewers plan the film was fascist. I reflect you can only call this ridiculous, since that assumes Fincher sympathizes with Tyler Durden’s project mayhem. In fact, he invites us to build our bear idea, like Stanley Kubrick did in “A Clockwork Orange”. “Fight Club” hands over the resposibility to the viewer. This may be sad to some, others (like myself) will embrace this.

FIGHT CLUB arrived in the US with a blaze of publicity stressing its violence and nihilism; some critics (and those finish to the production) countered this with the suggestion that it was an anti-materialist jeremiad. On a second viewing, it seems like neither — it’s easier to scrutinize it as a shining, committed and complex fragment of filmmaking. David Fincher once again dazzles with his direction, which is as intelligently energetic as the acting of Brad Pitt and, especially, Edward Norton. What’s really impressive, however, is the device that the film manages to flirt with an anti-materialist, hyper-masculine primitivism even as it suggests that we’re all a petite too sophisticated to take it (as it were) .

FIGHT CLUB may believe that we’re not the clothes we wear, or the credit cards in our wallet, but it’s savvy enough to realise that our paths of notion and modes of organisation are almost entirely despicable by the world we’ve created. Is the solution to waste that world? Well, that’s an option — but gawk closely in the movie’s second half and glimpse how subtly and hilariously Fincher undermines this: the anarchists open to chant management-speak, to dissolve into a collective identity, and to fabricate franchises as if they were selling frappucino rather than revolution. Norton is especially stunned at all this, and his astounding reactions to the disintegration of ‘Project Mayhem’ are the peaceful (and lawful) centre of the film. Rather like ANIMAL FARM, Fincher tells us that we can have our revolution, but it’s going to cost us dear; perhaps even the individuality and reason which we’d hoped to derive from our actions.
